Snohomish Swimming Clinic
Coach Bill Brenner, Presenter

Dear TWIM Booster Club,
Let’s see? Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or teaching me the butterfly stroke. Which is more difficult?
USMS Coach Bill Brenner (S. Carolina) was recently tasked with that very challenge. He just returned from an African hiking trip to run the TWIM Masters Swim Clinic at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. The stroke development clinic was well run, supported with outstanding regional USMS Club coaches and a sold-out complement of eager to learn Masters swimmers.
Freestyle was the focus for the first half, followed by the other three (3) competitive strokes including butterfly. Coach Brenner did not leave any of his skill sets on the grueling inclines of Mt. K. as he kept us engaged with multiple stroke drills. Each set was a single length of the pool, where we were greeted by an observing certified deck coach offering insightful critiques. Swimmers were approximately 5/lane across six (6) 25y lanes. What is important to know, is each of the drills were a single focus, that were layered together, to build a more efficient stroke. Clever analogies were offered by Coach Brenner. “Do you want to skim across the water like “Rocky” (the flying squirrel) or trudge along like his friend “Bullwinkle” (the moose). Coach Brenner kept the pace at a good learning level and appealed to many levels of ability. Adding playful quips, he kept everyone’s attention with a sense of humor.
I would like to thank all the regional certified swim coaches for volunteering their time to make this clinic a success. My appreciation to the TWIM Swim club for providing the facilities and putting together a welcome bag of goodies.
All the best in your journey to stroke improvement!
Sincerely,
Tom Weyhrauch
